So Excited to share today's shopping trip. It has been a while since I actually went out and shopped- life had gotten so busy, and truthfully I hadn't seen any must do deals!

Last week we had a new grocery store open in our area, so Giant, in order to stay in the ball game sent out some great store coupons- $5/50 order and 2 free items, 4 sets for the first 4 weeks the new store was open.

Well, you all know me, and I made sure to use them in the best possible money saving scenario I could!! Here is how I did!

11 Velveeta Cheesey Skillets- $2 , used $1/1 coupon

(worked out to be less than Kraft Mac and cheese)

1 Kraft Mayo- $2.99 (free Giant Store coupon)

1 Kool Aid Packet- .25

Now- for the above, when you spent $25 or more on participating Kraft items you got $7 instant savings- I had $25.24! (-$12.99 in coupons and $7 instant savings = $4.25 for all above)

I also Picked up Starkist tuna- .83 (free Giant Store coupon)

6 Tombstone Pizzas- $4.19 each- FREE

(I had 6 Free coupons expiring today- I had gotten them for buying Hasbro games a while back!)

and

6 Giant Brand Ham Steaks- for each 3 you bought, you earned 400 gas points! I made sure to find the 6 least expensive steaks, ranging from $3.30- $3.58 and earned 800 gas points

Now I have a 22 gallon tank in my van if I let it run way down- so that is a $17.60 savings to my wallet when I get gas!

Basically instead of using Google to search, I use their search engine. And, every once and while, they reward me with Swagbucks. Swagbucks can be redeemed for things like Amazon and Paypal gift cards! And, you do not have to pay a single cent to participate!!

Ok- Rant time. have you seen the new Monopoly game commercial on TV?? We have Nickelodeon on right now, watching Spongebob with my 5 year old. On came this commercial for the new Monopoly game using a credit card. Swipe and Win. With the music in the background, It's not about the Money, Money, Money.....

Um, what kind of message is this sending to kids about money and credit cards? Get all you want just with a swipe of a card. What happened to the "Banker" and having to count the money out? What happened to knowing you could buy this because you had enough money? Sure, they had Promissory Notes in my day, but you still knew you had to Borrow the money and then Pay it back. This just sends the wrong message in my opinion. I want my kids to know about money and how to budget it. It is much more of an impact to hand over a $20 bill when paying for something then handing a piece of plastic!!

Where are the lesson is math, borrowing and budgeting? Have we become this complacent that kids games have no teaching involved and obviously no care about money management? This game came out during the depression folks! And what is our nation heading towards again? This game looks to me like it was created by our politicians, not moms trying to make ends meet. Let's get back to reality and start teaching our kids that "credit" is not the answer.

Ok- Rant over, but still not liking this new version of the game. What are your thoughts????

And so it begins again. Greedy shoppers, over the top sales, disregarded store policies, and staged scenes. Will someone please remind TLC they are supposed to be the "Learning Channel" not the "misLeading Channel"

The Charlotte Observer recently printed this article regarding TLC's new season of Extreme Couponing. You all know how I feel about the show. At first I was excited to see a show concerned about today's economy and helping others learn the value of coupons and how it can help stretch a families budget. I was excited others would be able learn what I had learned years ago, how to coupon efficiently. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. I am "extremely" disappointed with the show and what it has "taught people." Couponing is not greedy, grab all you see. Couponing is not cheating the system. Couponing is not all deals at all costs.

Couponing is, providing for your family with in your means. Couponing is sharing and giving to others in need. Couponing is helping and teaching.

According to the article, TLC, doesn't seem to care about any of those "good" couponing traits. Lowes Foods, portrayed for the first time in the TLC series, regrets it's participation.

Lowes.. wasn't pleased with the experience.
"If we had it to do over again, we would not have done it," said Lisa Selip, a corporate spokeswoman for Lowes Foods who said the show was full of misrepresentations and sensationalism. "Hindsight is 20/20."

Lowes admits taping of some scenes are staged, and even acknowledges that the company waived part of its coupon policy for the benefit of TV cameras.

And yet, each week, millions of viewers tune in waiting to see the "Extreme" Yes, I know it is all ratings, and people don't want to see us boring couponers getting 2 free packs of gum and Pasta Sauce for .50. But you gotta remember what TV is- entertainment plain and simple. I just wish those watching the show would remember that and not think they can go out and buy a Sunday paper and duplicate those crazy shopping trips. That you don't need to steal the coupons out of the Sunday paper to save money. That for the most part these "shopping trips" are the biggest trips ever from that shopper, and that many store policies are overlooked. These shows should be looked at as a Made For TV miniseries, as that is what they are MADE FOR TV!!!!!

Good Bye All My Children!!!! Although I am not an avid All My Children viewer, my mom is. I grew up with this show every day, and remember the days of Jenny and Greg, Angie and Jessie, Dixie and Tad and well, Erica and everyone!! lol
Considering I am 44 years old, and the show ran for 42 seasons, I can honestly say I was there from the beginning! It did have its positive moments- it got my mother motivated to learn how to run the VCR to record the show when she went back to work! I am not a huge soap opera fan even though I am a sahm now. Just never got into them much. But on a rare occasion, the show would come on and I would catch bits and pieces. I would then call mom up at 2:01 and ask, ok- what was going on with so and so, and whe did they hook up with what's his name?? It was a fun connection to have.
So, good bye All My Children, I know you will be missed!
