Who Loves Kohls $5 off Coupons??

I love Kohls, and since we have one right in town, it is super easy for me to be there way too often!
With sick kids this week I just haven't gotten there as much. I have a few $5 off ANY purchase in-store coupons! The first 5 readers on make a comment on my BLOG post, not facebook, will be sent a link for a printable $5 coupon good until 4/2-this Saturday. I am doing this for a few reasons- 1. I hate to see them go to waste. 2. I want to see if you all are paying attention and actually are reading the blog. And 3. I hate talking to myself- would love some comments/feedback. Just tell me what you would like to get at Kohls, or give me a suggestion for something you would like to see on the blog! I will send the link as comments are made!
Thanks- have fun shopping BTW, these $5 off coupons can be used with any of the 15/20/30% off coupons you may have received!

Earning Gift Cards For Filling Prescriptions??

Well, yesterday I needed to take my daughter to the Dr, and as we expected, she had Strep Throat.  That meant a new prescription to fill.  Did you know that some pharmacies will offer gift card incentives for having your prescriptions filled at their store?  Most of these great coupons are for transferred prescriptions as they want you to continue to fill your meds there.  Occasionally a place will put out a coupon for a free gift card on a new prescription.  I picked up our new prescription at Target, paid $9.86 after insurance, and earned a $10 Target gift card! (Thanks Kristin for the extra coupon) Keep your eyes out for these prescription coupons in the stores ads- Rite Aid, Target, Kmart, etc.  You can even google and may find a printable coupon. Try asking when getting your script filled if they have any script coupons out- you never know what they may have hiding behind the counter!
Most transferred coupons can get you up to $25!  Infact, CVS will even honor those coupons from other stores.  Kmart is also running a current promotion where you get 25000 Kmart rewards points on your card that is equal to $25 to spend there!

A note about getting some prescriptions filled. Did you know there are times when you can get your script filled for less when you do NOT use you insurance! Ask your pharmacist what the difference is. I recently filled my sons Fluoride tablets and was able to get it for less without using the insurance then what my normal copay would have been! Make sure to ask!

** I must add, if you get many prescriptions filled you may be more comfortable keeping all your scripts at one location to ensure there are no drug interactions.  I "play the prescription game"  mainly with my kids flouride/vitamines, etc.

** Most NY, NJ and LA will not allow these per state laws.

Wonderful Wednesday Recipe: Sticky Chicken

OK- this is one of my favorites! It is just like a rotisserie chicken you would buy at the store.. Best part is, you can prep a few at a time and freeze for an easy ready to go meal later. AND you can always get more than one meal out of this.

Sticky Chicken

Ingredients

    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 2 teaspoons paprika
    • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper ( I cut down on this esp when feeding kids)
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon thyme
    • 1 teaspoon white pepper
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    • 3-4 lb. roasting chicken
    • 1 cup chopped onion

Directions

1. In a small bowl, thoroughly combine all the spices. Remove giblets from chicken, clean the cavity well and pat dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture into the chicken, both inside and out, making sure it is evenly distributed and down deep into the skin. Place in a resealable plastic bag, seal and refrigerate overnight.  (At this point you can freeze it and defrost when ready to cook)

2. When ready to roast chicken, stuff cavity with onions, and place in a shallow baking pan. Roast, uncovered, at 250 degrees F for 5 hours. After the first hour, baste the chicken occasionally (every half hour or so) with pan juices. The pan juice will start to caramelize on the bottom of the pan and the chicken will turn golden brown. If the chicken contains a pop-up thermometer, ignore it. Let chicken rest about 10 minutes before carving.

Makes 4 servings.

You can also cook more than one at a time.  They make great leftover chicken for any other recipes you may have that call for cooked chicken, or yummy sandwiches!
I also make a great Chicken soup/broth.  Just boil the carcass, with some carrots, celery and onion, drain and use for soup or broth.  Pull out the extra chicken- you would be amazed at how much chicken is still left on the bones, even after you have carved it all off!  For broth, place drained liquid in fridge.  Remove top layer of fat that rises to the top.  Freeze in small bowls, and then pop them out and keep in the freezer in a large freezer bag.  Defrost as needed, and Wahlah- chicken broth for any recipes that may call for it!

Awesome Freebie Deal!! HURRY!!!~SAMPLE SHOWCASE

The “Sample Showcase,” to be distributed nationally on a limited basis , is a box of assorted beauty, health and snack food items from multiple consumer packaged goods companies. The boxes will be branded with the Postal Service logo and include the tagline, “A selection of free product samples.”

Another strategy behind the pilot test is making sure that direct mail is the sampling method of choice. The co-op box concept, which allows candy bars to be marketed with skin lotions, for example, is expected to make direct mail sampling more attractive because it allows multiple manufacturers to share in the marketing and postage costs of the program.

So to sign up to get in on this round, head here . Do not delay if you want in on this great freebie package.

Thanks to For The Mommas for the heads up!!!

Monday Money Saving Tips~~Gathering and Finding Coupons #2

Collecting coupons~ Last week we talked about stockpiling. Well the way to do that is to have more than just one coupon on hand for a product when it goes on sale. That way you can buy several during the sale period and stock up at rock bottom prices!
Here are some of the ways to build up your coupon collection:

1) Sunday Inserts~ Obviously, the most well known! Inserts come in almost every Sunday paper. There are three main types of inserts: SmartSource, RedPlum, and P&G, and occasionally a General Mills or Kraft or Kelloggs insert. Some areas will get their inserts in the mail, instead of the Sunday paper. Check your local Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree as they often sell the local papers at a lower rate (YMMV). I know I can get extra papers for just $1 at my Dollar Tree. You can try to get your hands on extra inserts by watching recycling bins for inserts, checking with local stores to see if they will give away leftover papers, and asking all your friends and relatives to save theirs for you.

2) Printable Coupons~ Check out the Printable Coupon Page here at SavingWithWendy. Most of the Online Coupon sites change monthly, so it is best to check them for the HOT coupon prints early in the month before they run out-some only allow a certain number of prints. Also- make sure to go near the end of the month to print out coupons before they reset on the 1st.- this will give you the longer expiration dates.
Also, many manufacturer sites will offer printable coupons. Facebook is also becoming a wealth of coupons as more and more products are creating fan pages.

3) Tearpads, Hang Tags, Blinkies & Peelies~ Check out the Coupon Lingo Page to the right for further explanation on those types of coupons. Keep your eyes out EVERYWHERE for coupons! This includes grocery stores, gas stations and even doctor's offices. There are coupons everywhere so keep an eye out! Just today I saw coupons at the bowling alley for Kohls! Sitting right on the counter by the register!

4) Writing/Calling Companies~ Many times, simply writing or calling a company to compliment, complain or simply ask a question about a product will result in them sending you coupons, many times even for free items! Check out this forum for address of companies to contact! You can even check out the products in your pantry and look for an 800 number. Give it a call and compliment or complain, you may be surprised by the results. Now not all companies will send coupons, but many will, just ask!

5) Home Mailers/Magazines/Junk Mail~ You just never know what you may find useful in the junk mail at home, store circulars, and of course magazines- my favorite being All You. Also- check all the inserts in your bills, I recently found info to get a $10 Kohls coupons just for signing up for paperless billing!

6) Coupon Trading~ Do you have a couponing friend? You could always trade coupons for ones you may need and pass along ones you do not need.

7) Check Your Local Library~ Most all Libraries have several different News Papers delivered and will pull out the coupons and place them in a special area for people to go through and take ones they need. This is a great free resource- and your kids will love the time in the library!

8) Ordering Coupons~ If you are looking for several of a particular coupon- then ordering may be the most effective choice. There are many coupon clipping sites listed here at SWW as well as Ebay that you can order coupons from. Did you know different ares get different value coupons? Some areas may get a $1 off two products, while another may get .50 off one product. They may sound like the same deal, but if you are able to double coupons, the .50 coupon is actually the better deal! Most clipping services will have a minimum order and shipping fees- not all, some. Ebay you can often get free shipping. If you want a lot of coupons a clipping service is best- they come preclipped and sorted. Gotta love that!
We discuss this more at length in another post.

Keep your Eyes Open~Look everywhere, even on the back of rcpts, inside packaging for more coupons-peelies, tearpads, blinkies, and even rebate forms! Soon you will be noticing coupons more than ever!
Also, never, ever throw away coupons that you have collected and don't think you will use, those coupons can prove to be valuable to you in other ways which will be explained later.

Now, go started collecting coupons! Coming next week- Organizing Your Coupons!

Discounted NewsPaper Subsriptions!

Did you know there are actually services out there that can get you a HOME delivered paper for much less than the normal price?? I happened across this website Sunday when I didn't receive my Sunday Philly Inquirer.
I found that at this site, if I were a new subscriber, or hadn't gotten home delivery for a month, I was eligible for the Sunday Paper for only a $1 a week!!! That is 1/2 off!

Also- did you know if your subscription runs out, you can call them and ask for their best deal. If you don't like it, ask if they can do better? You just never know- my philosophy for anything, is ask for a discount- worse they can do is say no, best, is you get it!!:)

One other thing- if your paper is not delivered, or it is missing coupons, or even wet, you can call the newspaper subscription dept, and have a replacement sent out, or coupons mailed to you later in the week!

Frugal Friday Home Tips

This week I began a new Monday Feature on Money Saving Mondays- Couponing 101. I am also going to begin a Friday Feature: Frugal Friday Home Tips!

The great thing about this topic, is that it can encompass just about any aspects of saving money at home, be it from recycling, gardening, to energy saving tips!
Today's Frugal Friday Home Tip is on the many uses of Newspapers.
I know we ALL have extra newspapers around our houses- Here is a list of 10 things you can do with them besides recycling them. Any other ideas, please add yours!

Use Newspaper to:
1. Deodorize food containers. Stuff a balled-up piece of newspaper into a lunch box or thermos, seal it, and let sit overnight.
2. Ripen tomatoes. Wrap them individually and leave them out at room temperature.
3. Pack delicate items. Wrap frames and figurines with several pieces of newspaper, then crumple the remaining sections to fill extra space in the box.
4. Wipe away tough streaks on glass. Use newspaper with cleaning fluid to clean mirrors and windows.
5. Preserve antique glass. Some older frames have finishes on the glass that can be damaged by cleaning solutions. Remove smudges by rubbing with newspaper dipped in a solution of one part white vinegar and one part warm water. Let air-dry.
6. Dry shoes. Place crumpled paper in them overnight.
7. Wrap gifts. Use the comics to wrap a child’s birthday gift, or try the wedding announcements for an engagement gift.
8. Create a home for slushy snow boots. During the winter, keep a pile of newspaper near the entryway. When your little snowmen and -women come home, they can toss their winter wear onto the newspaper instead of creating puddles on the floor.
9. Prepare a garden. In the fall, mow a patch of lawn to make room for a dedicated bed. Cover it with four layers of newspaper, then a four-inch layer of shredded leaves or bark mulch. Hose it down. Come spring, the compost blanket will have smothered the grass roots, and the bed will be primed for planting. I also use newspaper in my garden, and cover it with grass clippings as a weed barrier during the planting season.
10. Keep the refrigerator vegetable drawer dry and free of smells. Line the bottom with newspaper.

Does your Electric Company Give YOU Rebates for Buying Energy Efficient Models??

I live in the PPL Electric area, and they have several rebates/incentives for buying Energy Star Appliances. You can even get cash for recycling your old appliances! I got my neighbor a $50 rebate for her new washer and dryer, and my mom was able to get $75 for buying her new Refrigerator. Per PPL Appliance Recycling PageYour old, spare refrigerator or freezer can use two to three times more electricity than newer, ENERGY STAR® models. Now you can have those inefficient appliances picked up for free, get paid for doing so and reduce your electricity use. Plus, 95 percent of the materials from these appliances will be recycled and not just dumped in landfills.

The refrigerator or freezer must be in working condition and be between 10 and 30 cubic feet in size. You must own the unit and be a PPL Electric Utilities customer. Limit two units per address per calendar year. A $35 incentive check will be mailed to you after the appliance is collected.

Bonus: If you have inefficient, working window air conditioners, we will have those picked up at the same time as your refrigerator or freezer and give you an additional $25 per unit, limit two per household per calendar year.
And now, PPL Electric Utilities has teamed up with Best Buy and Sears to offer our customers a convenient way to buy a new refrigerator AND arrange to recycle the old one at the same time. Customers can receive from PPL Electric Utilities a $50 rebate for the new refrigerator and a $35 check for recycling the old refrigerator, and Best Buy or Sears will make arrangements for delivery and pickup. Call 1-877-270-3522 or see a sales representative at Best Buy or Sears

Also, Per the PPL Appliance Rebate page:

For a limited time, PPL Electric Utilities is offering our customers E-power rebates on qualifying energy-efficient equipment and ENERGY STAR® appliance purchases through our Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. You'll find rebates on everything from refrigerators and dishwashers to office equipment and more. Plus the improved energy efficiency can save you money for years to come, so act now.

Find out what appliances and office equipment qualify for rebates.

Get your PPL Electric Utilities rebate form. Rebates are retroactive to July 1, 2009.

Periodically, other rebates and incentives may be offered through non-PPL Electric Utilities programs. This could mean extra savings for you.

Check out Your Electric Companies Wensite to see if they offer the same programs!

Wonderful Wednesday Recipes~~ Banana Crumb Muffins

Wonderful Wednesday Recipes will be my new midweek feature. When I buy bananas from the reduced produce area, I often have some that turn brown before we eat them all. This is actually a blessing in disguise, as that is when they are best for baking! And if you don't have time to bake with them right away, did you know you can freeze them? Thats right, just peel them, put them in a zipper lock bag, mush them, and freeze. When you are ready to bake, take them out and defrost, mush them up some more and add them in to your favorite recipe. Here is a delicious one to try:

Banana Crumb Muffins

Batter:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3 bananas, mashed
3/4 cup white sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/3 cup butter, melted

Streusel Topping:
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1 Tbsp. butter

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease muffin tin. In a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, beat together bananas, sugar, egg, and melted butter. Stir the banana mixture into the flour mixture just until moistened. Spoon batter into prepared muffin cups.

In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, 2 Tbsp. flour and cinnamon. Cut in 1 tablespoon butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Sprinkle topping over muffins. Bake in preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean.

Do you have a favorite banana recipe you would like to share?

Restaurant.com

GET 80% off using code DEAL at checkout, good till 3/27
The best thing about Restaurant.com certificates, is they DO NOT expire anymore! I buy now and print them out and keep them in an envelope hanging on the fridge. When we feel the urge to eat out, we check and see what we have on hand. My other big trick to using these is to stock up on certificates for restaurants for vacation time, places you may stop at while visiting family/friends in your travels! You can't imagine the amount of money we saved when going to Myrtle Beach last year! (And if you happen not to use 1 or 2 of them, you are only out a few dollars, but have still saved plenty on your trip. You could even be a good Samaritan and hand them out to other vacationers.)
So go check them out- You can get some great deals- just be sure to check the details per each restaurants certificate- some can only be used certain days, lunch or dinner, and min. purchase requirements.

Bon Appetite!!
