Don't forget Swagbucks birthday celebration today~~ Earn Amazon $$

Search & Win

Wow, 80 Swagbucks for NEW members! To celebrate Swagbucks 3rd birthday, they’re planning a GIANT celebration on today with lots of Swag Codes, a new look, new features, and more!
If you are using Swagbucks, why not join now! It is a great day to join with lots of point codes being announced today!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWAGBUCKS!
Swagbucks is offering a 50 FREE Swagbuck bonus when you sign up HERE and enter code 3rdBirthday115 in the code box! You will get 30 points just for signing up, so 80 points TOTAL!

If you are not familiar with Swagbucks, here is some information:
Basically, you get paid to search! Seriously….when you search through “Swagbucks” search engine, you could win Swagbucks that can be redeemed for cash through Paypal, git cards, etc. My absolute FAVORITE thing to get is the $5 Amazon gift cards. I made over $100 in Amazon money from swagbucks last year alone!  I try to save them up to help pay for Christmas or birthday presents!    I have been using swagbucks for about 2 years now and so glad I found them!
Here are some ways you can earn Swagbucks:
Search the web:
I use my swagbucks toolbar instead of Google and anytime I go to a site or search something I use it. Each time you win with a search it is averages 10 swagbucks and believe it or not, they add up FAST!
Daily Polls:
You can also do daily polls for which you will win 1 swagbuck automatically so that’s a guaranteed 30 a month.
Mega Swagbucks Day:
Also, every Friday is Mega Swagbucks day and you could win a ton of swagbucks in one search (depending on how lucky you are)! One Friday I won 50 swagbucks in one search, although I have heard others winning much higher amounts on Fridays!
Refer People:
For every person you refer, you will earn whatever Swagbucks they earn through searches!
* Taking Surveys
Another way to earn Swagbucks is by taking surveys online through Swagbucks. Each one is worth a different amount.

I had a friend recently thank me so much for introducing them to Swagbucks!  It is a no brainer- search, win and earn!! If you have any questions, I would be happy to answer any and all- no questions is stupid!

Gas Prices headed up!

Wow, I know I recently blogged about gas prices going up and gave you a few tips to help save a few gallons. But I was shocked today when I went to fill up my tank. Last week as I was talking to you gas was $3.11 in my area. I needed gas today and it was already up to $3.29- that is 18 cents in just a matter of days!
And I am sure todays news of an Attack on Iraq's largest refinery and shutting it down will only make things much worse!
Really starting to wonder why I am hanging on to my minivan that gets a whopping 15 mpg around town? It is still working ok, and I would rather keep it going till it conks out, but the gas is killing me! Time to start a special savings account for a down payment on a new car I guess!
In the mean time I found this article with a few more gas/money saving tips. What is your best tip for saving on gas??

Offermatic: Get $15 off any $30 Purchase at Target, Amazon or Walgreens

I was just introduced to a new way to save recently. I was somewhat skeptical, but have gotten confirmation from Shannon at For The Mommas that it works just as described!
Offermatic offers automatic savings through your existing credit or debit card – without the need for coupons, codes, and vouchers. By signing up for the free service online and linking one or more cards, Offermatic anonymously and securely reviews purchase history and identifies highly targeted and relevant money saving offers from merchants.

So for example, if you are a frequent Target shopper- who isn't-, your offer may be for Target. When I registered my card, I got an email offering $15 off a $30 purchase at Target. I accepted the offer and received an email confirming that it was accepted.

If I spend $30 at Target, I will get $15.00 credit back to my card account. No rebate forms to fill out or anything. It is straight up 50% off ANY purchase at Target. It appears on your credit or debit card within 30 Days. The nice thing, lets say you are buying the L’Oreal Youth Code to get the $10 Rebate – you can submit for that $10 rebate and get your $15 credit on your credit card statement. It can be a triple dip – coupons, rebates and offermatic rebate.

For a limited time, you can get either $15 off $30 at either Amazon, Walgreens or Target from Offermatic.

Here is how it works:

:: You sign up for Offermatic.

:: You add a credit card – you are not actually adding the number, only the online credentials (think online programs like Mint). Offermatic never sees your credit card number. (some credit cards or banks may not be eligible)

:: Once you add your card, you will automatically have an offer to get $15 off a $30 Amazon, Walgreens or Target purchase.

:: Make your purchase at the store you select spending $30 or more and get a $15 credit on your next credit card statement. (it can take up to 30 Days to see your credit)

:: You will continue to receive offers based on your purchases and level.

Now, you must participate in online banking with your credit or debit card to be eligible for these offers. You can check out the FAQ’s on Offermatic here to read all about the security and get more info.

Upon entering my information, I immediately got back 3 offers! $6 back on any $12 Movie Ticket purchase, $5 back on any Lowes $10 Purchase, and the $15 back on any $30 Target purchase! You can use this with you point earning cards too and really get more bang for your buck! Just remember, when using credit cards, make sure you are paying your balance off in full each mouth to make sure these rewards truly are free money!!

Kmart Doubling P&G coupons Week 2/27-3/5

"There is an announcement in the SmartSource coming Sunday that says this.

ONLY AT KMART: "Double P&G brandSaver coupons! Look in the brandSaver insert in today's paper for coupons. Then shop 2/27 - 3/5 to double their values. PLUS, get a $10 coupon when you buy $35 worth of P&G products."

It requires your Kmart shoppers card. I'm assuming the $10 coupon is a catalina, but it's not clear.

Requires a $25 purchase to double coupons, and coupons up to $2 will be doubled.

"Participating stores only." Since the ad is in a national... coupon insert, there's a good chance that every KMart is participating... but it never pays to make assumptions about KMart. Call first."

Thanks Amanda!!!!

Gas prices on the rise: Oil just passed $100 a barrel!

Well, for the first time since 2008, the price of oil has surpassed $100 a barrel. This means higher gas prices. What are some of the ways you save on gas, short of going out and buying a new hybrid car?
Here are a few tips:
1. Try to plan out your shopping trips so you can get as much done in a circle. The less back and forth travel, and combining multiple errands into one trip will help cut down on gas usage.
2. Have a neighbor you can carpool with? Carpools aren't just for commuting or going to soccer practice. Why not join forces and go to the grocery store on the same day, and share a ride? You can chat and enjoy each others company, while still getting you shopping done- who knows you may even be able to swap a few coupons while you are out too!
3. Reduce the number of activities your kids are in. I know this is easier said than done, as I have 2 teen girls in cheer leading and gymnastics. I feel like I am running every night of the week. If you can't cut down, then just plan to stay home during the day, and plan your errands for when the kids are at practice rather than driving back home and out again to pick them up.
4. Does your grocery store offer gas rewards? Keep an eye on the offers each week and see if you can match any of the gas point deals with good coupons you may have- any time you can get a discount on gas is a good thing!
5. Don't drive out of your way for cheaper gas. This may sound counter productive, but if you are travel 5-10 miles out of your way just to save 2-5 cents per gallon, it won't make a difference when you figure in the gas you used to get there. Instead, try to keep track of the price of gas at different locations, and fill up at the cheapest place when you are there.

So, how do YOU save on gas?

Lower the cost of running your fridge without spending a dime

To cut utility costs at home, start with your fridge. Appliances account for about 20 percent of your household’s energy consumption, and refrigerators lead the pack. Whether yours is a new energy-efficient model or 20 years old, you can reduce the cost of running your fridge simply by the way you use it. Follow these guidelines to start saving now.

Keep it chill. Regulate the temperature, but don’t keep it too low. The colder the setting, the more energy your fridge uses. For maximum energy efficiency and food safety, set it to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, and the freezer to 0 degrees. Maintain the rear. Dust buildup on the coils makes your fridge work harder. Be sure to vacuum or dust them regularly. Stock up. The fuller your fridge (and freezer), the less space there is to cool and the quicker the fridge chills back down once the door is closed. Location counts. Place your fridge away from your oven, stove top, radiator or other heat sources, and make sure there are a few inches of space around it. The unit can nestle, but it shouldn't abut walls, counters or other appliances. Cool down hot food. Placing hot dishes into the fridge taxes the appliance. Let them cool down first for up to 2 hours―but no longer (or you’ll risk bacteria growth). Think before opening. Don’t open the refrigerator door without knowing exactly what you want. The more time you spend staring indecisively, the warmer the interior of the fridge becomes. Put a lid on it. Cover liquids and containers with plastic wrap or a top so the fridge doesn’t have to chill every exposed surface.

10 Ways the Library Can Save You Money

I found this great article on saving money bu going to your library for things most people spend money on! Check it out.

The library is not just for books anymore. Check out your local library for these ways it could be saving you money:

Movies and sitcoms. You'd be surprised how many DVDs your library carries. You may have to wait for new releases, but there's plenty to choose from in the meantime. Libraries often carry more foreign films and documentaries - a great way to shake up your viewing habits. Beware: British comedies are quite addictive!

Exercise videos. Aren't exercise videos annoying after the twentieth viewing? With the library's collection, you could watch a different exercise video every week. At least try exercise videos out from the library before committing to buy one.

Language and other educational materials. These can cost a bundle if you have to buy them outright. And when you borrow them, there's motivation to complete the course before it can't be renewed again.

Computer use. Libraries are devoting more space now to computers to provide all their patrons with Internet access. You may not even need to pay for Internet at home if you can get to the library easily enough.

Free classes and talks. Check out the library schedule for classes on language, job hunting skills, health, genealogy, personal finance, and so on.

Few spending temptations. It's hard to spend money at the library. Unlike the local bookstore or video rental store, there's no candy for the kids to beg for, or latte stand calling to you. And an outing to the library is certain to end less badly for your pocketbook than a stroll through the mall.

Books (of course). Why buy books, and then try to find places to store them all, when you can check them out of the library? It used to be hard to find specific books, especially new or popular ones. Now, in many places you can request an interlibrary loan at no cost to you, and have the book you want sent to your library. Never buy a book without checking your library first.

Are you earning Amazon $$ through SWAGBUCKS?? If not, what are you waiting for?? 80 swagbucks for new members this week!

Search & Win

Wow, 80 Swagbucks for NEW members! To celebrate Swagbucks 3rd birthday, they’re planning a GIANT celebration on February 28th with lots of Swag Codes, a new look, new features, and more!

Although their birthday isn't til Friday, the fun starts now. Today through February 28th, Swagbucks is offering a 50 FREE Swagbuck bonus when you sign up HERE and enter code 3rdBirthday115 in the code box!

I have been usiing swagbucks for about 2 years now and so glad I found them!
* Taking Surveys

Are you Do-It-Your selfers?? Lowes 10% Tax refund deal!!

Well,  being the frugal family we are, we never hire out for anything!  Poor hubby gets to do it all!  Luckily he is pretty handy and isn't afraid to try new things- on another post I will show some pictures of some of our projects.
We wind up spending a lot of time at Lowes, and a lot of money- even when using those great $10/$50 coupons, or the 10% off ones.  We went into Lowes this morning because we are painting our basement play room (which we finished off ourselves of course) and walked into a great deal!!
Lowes is offer a Tax Refund 10% back program.
Basically, you buy a Lowes gift card at the service desk for any amount, $500-$4,000.  Use it as you normally would when shopping, even combining coupons with it to make it go further.  Then on March 18th, Lowes will automatically add 10% of what your initial purchase price was.  I bought the min of $500, and on March 18th, $50 will be added, nothing for me to do!  I figure with all of our projects, it will eventually get spent.   (Now if this were last year, when we built our deck, I could have earned a lot more!)
SO if you are planning any home projects this year, this is a great deal!  Just make sure to pay in cash, or pay off the credit card you use to buy this to make this is truely FREE MONEY!!!  This is also a great deal for contractors!
    • Amounts from $500 to $4,000
    • Cards available for purchase 2/8/2011 to 3/14/2011, with 10% of the original card amount added back to your card on 3/18/2011
    • Cards cannot be redeemed for cash or credit, and cannot be used for credit payments
    • Customers returning merchandise purchased with a Tax Refund Card will receive a merchandise credit

Do you love Kohls as much as I do??  Maybe because it is the nicest place in our town, but they always have great sales, awesome clearnace, and wonderful coupons!
Now, I am not a huge fan of credit cards, in fact, I make it a point to pay them off each month so that my "rewards points" truely are free money!  Now, back to Kohls, getting a Kohls card is a great idea.  12 times a year they offer 15%-20%-30% off codes when you use your Kohls card.  And free shipping for MVC memebers (most valued customer)  You will get a home mailer with a sticker on the front showing the discount you can use.  Or you can opt for a scratch off at the ceck out.  If you get that wonder 30% coupon, it can be used over and over again till the end of the sale.  If shopping online, you can generally easiely find that 30% off coupon- and if you order at the Kiosk insotre for home delivery, you will get free shipping regardless of your MVC status!!  You can pay your bill in store.  AND if you really don't like credit cards, but want it for the discount, you can use your card to pay at the register first, and then immediately tell them you would like to make a payment on your card and hand them the exact amount you just spent!  Wahlah- no credit card bills, but you get the same benefits and rewards!!
    \
Now, on to the Discount code for this week!  30% off for online orders is FEBSAVINGS
You are able to use two coupon codes when order online for Kohls, and using MVCSHIP will get you free shipping-these are when using your Kohls card.

Free Food Coupons for McDonalds in this Weeks Red Plum insert

As much as I am not a huge fan of McD's, my 4 year old, and that is where we usually meet for playdates with his best friend.  McDonalds is trying to push their breakfast menu and now has an Oatmeal option.  NOw, knowing I don't normal like fast food, I had gotten a coupon for a free oatmeal last time we were there in the packet of plastic wear.  It is Fruit and Maple Oatmeal and has small chuncks of apples, raisins, and cranberries.  I trried it one day after I dropped my guy off at preschool and was very pleasantly surprised!  It was very good, and at least in my mind healthier than that bowl of Capt Crunch I could have had-lol.
So, back to the coupons, there are :
    (2)  Absolutely Free Oatmeal (no purchase nes.)
    (2) Free Oatmeal with any med beverage
    (2) Free Med Drink AND Fry with ourchase of any Angus Third Pounder

    Welcome to Saving with Wendy!

Well, I am a SAHM for 11 years now.  When I left my job as a Child Care Center Director to be home with my children full time, I still wanted to contribute to our family finances.  I babysat a bit in home for some neighbors with girls the same age as mine.  It was a perfect scenario- they were my girls best friends, and her previous sitter had just retired.  It was as if it was meant to be.  But then I realized I was feeding more mouths, and had some added expenses since we were home all day.  It was about 6 months later that I started searching online about saving money with coupons.  I found a few sites and started reading these incredible stories of others savings!!  I knew I could do it.  Ever since then I have been a hard core couponer, trying not to spend full price on anything!! My girls were 3 and 5 when I quit work, they are now 16 and 14, and we had a surprise addition 4 years ago- our beautiful boy!  Luckily by this time I was well versed in coupon shopping and spent very little on all those baby expenses like diapers/wipes and formula.
I have taught others to coupon, including a stay at home dad, and have taught couponing classes at local mothers groups.  I have been on the big coupon boards and have several I still frequent- but I like the small feel, and hope to pass along some great deals to all of you!
Welcome to Saving with Wendy!  Join on in and enjoy my new venture!

Coupon Lingo- Learn all the Crazy Abbreviations

For those of you that are new to couponing, I’ve put together a list of some of the abbreviations/terms that you might find while shopping/blogging in the “coupon world.” If you see one that I missed, please let me know and I’ll add it. Thanks!

$/$$ – This means $ amount off when you spend $ amount. Example: $5/$30 is $5 off your purchase when you spend $30. (Check to see if the amount has to be before or after coupons to apply.)

B1G1 or BOGO = Buy One Get One Free (B1G2 is Buy One Get Two Free etc.)

Blinkie = A coupon that you find in those red blinkie machines in the store. They are located by the product associated with that particular coupon.

Cash Register Tape = Your Receipt. Also referred to as CRT.

CAT = Catalina. A coupon that prints out at the register that is either $$ off your next purchase or $$ off a certain product. You typically have to use them at the store they printed, but some stores will take “competitor’s” coupons. Note: These are sometimes delayed in printing so wait a minute before walking away from the register. If you think you were supposed to get one and didn’t, talk to the cashier/manager and explain.

Clearance – These are typically greatly reduced items that the store does not plan on re-stocking.

Competitors – This is the term meaning “of related chains.” For example, grocery stores will take other grocery store’s coupons and drug stores will take other drug store coupons. Always check with each store on what their coupon policy is and which stores they consider to be a competitor.

Coupon Policy – This is the policy that each store follows, in regards to coupons. What is typically included in their policy is whether they: take competitor’s coupons, take coupons past expiration dates, “double” or “triple” coupons, accept Internet Printables or if they even accept coupons.

Coupon Insert or just Inserts – These are “packets” of coupons found in Sunday papers and also sometimes in the ads mailed to you during the week. These are typically sent out by Smart Source (SS), Red Plum (RP), General Mills (GM) and Proctor & Gamble (PG).

Discontinued – This means that a store has depleted their inventory of an item and does not plan on re-stocking it.

Double Coupons = This is the term used when stores will double a coupon’s value. Example, if you have a $1 off coupon, they’ll take $2 off. Stores vary on how often they do this ranging from never, always, on occasion or specific days of the week. Some stores may also set a maximum value limit. Example, no coupons over $2 and only 10 per transaction/day.

C/O = coupon or cents off

DND= Do not double- found on some coupons

ECB = Extra Care Bucks. Exclusive to CVS. They work like cash on your next order. (Some restrictions do apply.)

ES =Easy Saver. This is Walgreens monthly rebate program. You can find the books by their ads in the store.

EXP = Expires or Expiration Date

Internet Printable = A coupon that can be printed online. Also referred to as IP or Printable.

OOP = Out-of-Pocket. This is the amount of money that you have spent after coupons, ECBs, RRs, Catalinas (See terms for explanations)

OOS = Out-of-Stock. This means that the store is temporarily out of an item but plans on getting in more inventory. Sometimes they will offer a raincheck in cases like these.

OYNO = On Your Next Order. Used when referring to coupons that you can use on your next order at that store. (Sometimes Competitors will take them.)

Peelie = Coupons found on products in the store. (Don’t forget to pull these off and hand them to your cashier when you check-out. Don’t rely on the cashier to notice them for you. It will only aggravate you later when you come home to find it’s still there!)

PG = Proctor & Gamble. A big chain of brands that also puts out a coupon insert.

    POP= Proof of Purchase

    c/o= Coupon or cents off

Raincheck = A slip you can ask for in the store when an item’s on sale and out-of-stock. Some sales will specifically say “No rainchecks” and some stores will put an expiration date on their rainchecks

RP = Red Plum. This is a coupon insert that you’ll either find in your paper or the mail.

Register Rewards or RRs = Exclusive to Walgreens. They work like cash on your next order. (Some restrictions do apply.)

Rolling Catalinas – This means that you can use a catalina (see definition) as payment on another transaction of equal merchandise and another catalina will still print. Example, if you buy 5 “name brand items,” a $5 catalina will print. If you then buy another set of those same 5 “name brand items,” you can use the previous catalina you received as payment towards the order and another $5 catalina will print.

Stacking Coupons = This is the term used when stores will let you use their own store coupons along with a manufacturer’s coupon for the same item. Example: Most Targets would let you use their $ off “specific brand” product coupons along with a manufacturer’s coupon for that same “specific brand” product.

Stores vary on how often they do this ranging from never, always, on occasion or specific days of the week. Some stores may also set a maximum value limit. Example, no coupons over $2 and only 10 per transaction/day.

UP+ = Coupons printed on the bottom of Rite Aid receipts when certain products are purchased

UPC = Universal Bar Code. This is the bar code that’s scanned on products for pricing/info at the stores. Several companies will ask you to mail these in on rebates

VV = Video Value coupons. These can be found here and are Rite Aid Coupons you earn by watching videos on the site- these are store coupons and can be used in conjunction with manufacturer coupons

    WAGS = Abbreviation for Walgreens

WT = Wine Tag. These are coupons that you’ll find hanging on the wine bottles in the stores.

YMMV = Your Mileage (Manager) May Vary. This is what you’ll see when someone finds a deal but they want you to know that your store branch may not offer the same deal.

    WYB = When You Buy

I know it sounds confusing, but after a few weeks of seeing the abbreviations, you will have it down pat, and your spouse will think you learned a new language!
