What are you Planning for Dinner Tonight??
Since I got that great deal on Chicken thighs at Target this week, I searched and found a new, delicious sounding recipe:
I will let you all know how it turns out. What's on your menu for tonight???
Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 10 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 3/4 cup honey
- 3/4 cup lite soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
- 1 (20 ounce) can pineapple tidbits, drained with juice reserved
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
Directions
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat, and cook chicken thighs just until evenly browned on all sides. Place thighs in a slow cooker.
- In a bowl, mix honey, soy sauce, ketchup, garlic, ginger, and reserved pineapple juice. Pour into the slow cooker.
- Cover, and cook 4 hours on High. Stir in pineapple tidbits just before serving.
- Mix the cornstarch and water in a small bowl. Remove thighs from slow cooker. Blend the cornstarch mixture into remaining sauce in the slow cooker to thicken. Serve sauce over the chicken.
I will let you all know how it turns out. What's on your menu for tonight???

Do you Enter Online Sweepstakes/Giveaways??
I usually enter online sweepstakes, giveaways, etc. I figure I have as good a chance as anyone, and if it just takes a few seconds of my time, why not take the chance! Now, I have never figured out the stats of entries vs wins/losses, but I do win on occasion. In fact, lately I have been on a roll! A month or so back, I won a facebook post for a $25 Famous Footwear Gift Card. A few weeks ago, I won a large variety box of LARA Bars. And just this week, I was informed I had won and iPod Shuffle for entering a Blog contest! I am also pretty lucky at getting many of the freebies offered on Companies Facebook pages- many free item coupons. I can't wait to try the new Ore Ida Sweet Potato Fries with the coupon I scored yesterday!
So- do you take the time to enter sweepstakes or giveaways? If so, what are some of the things you have won?
BTW- don't forget the giveaway here:

Going Green, a Look Back.....
A friend of mine posted this and I just loved it! hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren’t good for the environment.
The woman apologized to him and explained, “We didn’t have the green thing back in my day.”
The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. The former generation did not care enough to save our environment."
He was right, that generation didn’t have the green thing in its day.
Back then, they returned their milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled.
But they didn’t have the green thing back in that customer's day.
In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building.
They walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks.
But she was right. They didn’t have the green thing in her day.
Back then, they washed the baby’s diapers because they didn’t have the throw-away kind.
They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts – wind
and solar power really did dry the clothes.
Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.
But that old lady is right, they didn’t have the green thing back in her day.
Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house – not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of the state of Montana .
In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because they didn’t have electric machines to do everything for you.
When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not polystyrene or plastic bubble wrap.
Back then, they didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power.
They exercised by working so they didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.
But she’s right, they didn’t have the green thing back then.
They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water.
They refilled their writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.
But they didn’t have the green thing back then.
Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or rode the school bus instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service.
They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances.
And they didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.
But isn't it sad that the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks were just because they didn't have the green thing back then?
I hope you GET IT, the point being that we of the older generations didn’t NEED the Green Thing, as we weren’t anywhere near as WASTEFUL as the Modern Generations are. And most of us oldies still aren’t so wasteful.

USE BOTTLE TOPS to Seal a Bag
This is really cool! My mom just sent me an email with this and thought I would share with all of you!
Insert the plastic bag through the neck and screw the top to seal. The bag is made to be air-tight, such that water will not leak, the secret lies with the top and screw cap! This is a great idea to share. Good for us and the environment too. |

Vinegar*** More Than Just for Dying Easter Eggs!
Today, there are so many various products on the market for specific uses around your home. We spend so much money on these products! The funny thing is that some of the simplest, most inexpensive things we can buy are the most versatile. We could save a lot of money by going back to the basics in homemaking. Vinegar is a great example of this. Here are just a few of vinegar's many uses:
* Wash windows. For a streak-free shine, wash windows with a mixture of equal parts warm and white distilled vinegar. Dry with a soft cloth.
* Remove stickers and price tags. Soak the sticker in vinegar, then rub off. This works even better when the vinegar is heated.
* Clean and deodorize your garbage disposal. Make vinegar ice cubes and feed them down the disposal.
* Freshen the air. Vinegar sprayed through a spray bottle works great to remove odors in the air.
* Deter ants. Sometimes aunts can be deterred simply by washing surfaces in pure-strength vinegar.
* Clean bathtub rings. Wipe bathtub rings with white, distilled vinegar then with baking soda. Wash clean with warm water.
* Keep peeled potatoes fresh. Cover peeled potatoes with water and add a couple of teaspoons of vinegar. This will keep the potatoes from turning dark before you have a chance to use them.
* Moisturize your skin. Add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to your bath water.
* Make buttermilk. Instead of buying buttermilk, try this: Add a tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of milk and let stand for five minutes. (I've tried this--it works great as a substitute for buttermilk in any recipe.)
*Wallpaper Removal. Mix equal parts of hot water and vinegar. Next, dip a paint roller or paint brush into the solution, and wet the paper thoroughly. After two or three applications, most of the paper should peel off in sheets. For stubborn spots, repeat process until you are able to peel.
*Urine Stains on Fabric or Carpet. They say animal urine, but human urine works this way too. Blot up as much of the liquid as you can. Then use warm (not hot) water to flush the spot several times. Apply a solution of equal parts of vinegar and cold water. Blot up the excess liquid, rinse with water and allow to dry. If the stain remains, apply the vinegar solution and leave on stain for about 20 minutes. Repeat blotting, rinsing and then allow to dry.
*Jars. If you are as frugal as I am, you probably keep packaging containers such as butter and pickle or mayonnaise jars. We use them for other things around the house. Use white vinegar to rinse the inside of the jars once they are clean, to eliminate the odor of whatever used to be in the jar. This also works on plastic storage containers used to store food.
*Lime Deposits. I found a cool trick to eliminate lime deposits in faucets. Tie a plastic sandwich baggie filled with a ½ cup of vinegar to cover the entire outside of the faucet head. Be sure the entire thing is drenched and covered in the vinegar. Allow to soak for several hours. It's worked for us and leaves no odors and everything shines and looks so clean!
*Remove Odor from Laundry. Ever leave the laundry in the washer too long, and get that sour smell? Just rewash the load with a cup of vinegar and dry as normal. No more smells!
Do you have any tricks on how to use vinegar?? Please share with us.....
